Welcome to Lower Moreland Township

In 2016, the township received a $420,000 Multimodal Transportation Fund grant from the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority for the design and engineering of a plan for the Philmont Avenue/ Pine Road/ Tomlinson Road Intersection Improvement Project. This long-term project will improve traffic circulation and promote safer pedestrian connectivity to amenities and services, recreational facilities and public transportation.

The Township’s Traffic Engineer, McMahon Associates, Inc., is currently working on the $900,000 plan, which will include preliminary design layouts, construction cost estimates and a preliminary submission to PennDOT for approval and permitting of the project. Phase One of the proposed design will combine Tomlinson Road and Pine Road into one roadway, eliminating the need for two separate legs of the intersection. Additional turning lanes will be added to Pine Road and Philmont Avenue, allowing more traffic to flow through the intersection per traffic cycle.

This past summer, the Township received notification that the project was selected for the State Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) and approved as a “Twelve Year Program”.  The TIP is the region’s capital budget for federal and state transportation funds. More information will be provided as this project progresses. Click here to view the plan.
